WHO WE ARE

ABOUT HUC&PA

"Theatre is like a gym for empathy.  It’s where we go to build UP the muscles for compassion, to practice listening, and understanding and engaging with people that are not just like ourselves.  We practice sitting down, paying attention and learning from other people’s actions.  We practice caring.”

– Bill English, San Francisco Playhouse

Since 1998, director and actor, Ayinde Hurrey, has taken his vision of multiculturalism with him, traveling all over the east coast as an actor and teacher in the performing arts.  After discovering the vast educational opportunities for culturally diverse stage works such as his own, Hurrey decided to form a production company that would reflect his style as an actor, director, writer, and educator.

Hurrey-UP Consulting & Performing Arts is Hurrey’s vision made reality.  Hurrey-UP dares to take creative risks by producing original and popular theatrical works that spark intelligent discussion and artistic discovery within the community.  With particular focus on multi-cultural themes and performance styles, the company produces stage plays, performance workshops, films, and programs in dance and theatrical movement.

HUC&PA is dedicated to the commitment and persistence of stressing, to both youth and adults, the importance of strengthening the performing arts in our communities and transfusing its basic elements within the core subjects of educational curriculums.  The company presents artistic performances aimed to reach the depths of the soul and gently plays to the heart strings of our emotions; seeking to rejuvenate one’s spirit.

Since the onset of COVID-19, HUC&PA offers virtual online classes in several performing arts subjects.  Please check our PROGRAMS page for more details.

“I believe that in a great city, or even in a small city or a village, a great theatre is the outward and visible sign of an inward and probable culture.”

OUR MISSION

HUC&PA is dedicated to the commitment and persistence of stressing to both youth and adults, the importance of strengthening the performing arts in our schools and communities.

We present artistic performances aimed to reach the depths of the soul and gently play to the heart strings of our emotions; seeking to rejuvenate one’s spirit.

My absolutely favorite time of working on a project is the time I spend not knowing what it is. Because the longer you live inside that period, the likelier you are to discover something new.
